Saturday (23/01/2021) yesterday was the one year anniversary of the Wuhan pandemic and the first regional quarantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Wuhan is believed to be the center as well as the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in the world. Unlike Indonesia, which is still struggling with the high number of Covid-19 cases, now Wuhan is declared completely free from the pandemic.
Wuhan has been under lockdown from January to June 2020. Many are surprised that all mobility for the past six months has been banned, so that almost every sector has suffered losses. However, this strategy has proven successful in reducing the rate of spread of Covid-19. A year later, China became one of the few countries with a success story in tackling the pandemic.
If Indonesia is still struggling with the thousands of Covid-19 cases every day, since last September, Wuhan has fully opened a nightlife center like a discotheque as before. Health authorities in Wuhan have confirmed the city is free from Covid-19 since June after officials conducted thorough swab tests of its 9.9 million residents.
Wuhan Corona Virus Museum
Commemorating one year of the pandemic and the success of overcoming Covid-19, the Chinese government opened an anti-Covid-19 museum on October 15, 2020. When it first opened, at least 3,000 people were recorded to visit every day. Inside the museum, visitors get a detailed overview of how Covid-19 infects the lungs.
There are photos and videos depicting the tense situation in one of the Wuhan hospitals when the Covid-19 outbreak suddenly occurred ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration, the holiday of the Chinese ethnic community. Not only that, there are also ambulances and various medical equipment for handling outbreaks. Several dioramas depict tense moments in the ICU and the arrival of reinforcements.
